Moon Rain Centre for tapestry arts is a small non-profit organization dedicated to integrating creativity and harmony in the community through the creation, exhibition and teaching of tapestry arts. The name Moon Rain refers to the mystical connection between the moon, weaving and the cosmos. 2007Spider Woman's ApprenticesSpider Woman is the Navajo weaver spirit. It is she who gave the gift of weaving to First Woman. During these workshops, participants explore and develop their own creativity using tapestry weaving techniques and practices that have been developed at Moon Rain over the past 30 years. Working from a place of inner knowing, participants learn to weave while staying centred in what the Navajo's call "the beauty place" of weaving.
Level One: In the BeginningA workshop for absolute beginners July 14 – 15 This weekend workshop is intended as a first introduction to the art and craft of tapestry weaving. Participatnts explore and practice basic tapestry weaving techniques on small frame looms. While learning to blend colours and build woven shapes, participants discover the flow of weave, as they created a small tapestry to take home. Simple yet powerful, this workshop is an ideal introduction to the path of tapestry weaving. $175 includes materials Level Two: On the Path of WeaveDeveloping skills and learning July 23 – July 27 Earth and Sky provides our home and nourishes our spirit and creativity by revealing its great beauty. In this workshop the patterns of nature inspire woven tapestries. Participants explore in depth the entire tapestry weaving process from sketching visual ideas, freely adapting tapestry weaving techniques to create, finish and present a completed tapestry. Participants are immersed in the flow of tapestry weave, letting their creativity expand and flourish as they establish their own footing on the path of tapestry weave. $395 includes materials Level Three: Direction on the PathMentoring This specially adapted programme responds to unique questions and concerns of individual advanced tapestry students. Emerging tapestry weavers learn to recognize and develop their own individual creative strengths. As they work from a place of inner knowing they discover their own inner guidance, which empowers their individual path to becoming participating creative members in their own communities. prerequisite: Level Two and portfolio Level Four: Weaving and CultureA workshop for teachers, arts educators and cultural facilitators Weaving transmits the energy of Peace. It has a calming, harmonizing effect on people- especially on children, so is an excellent tool for today’s classrooms and community centers. This workshop teaches simple creative weaving skills and projects that are suitable for all ages, abilities, and cultural programming budgets. In this workshop participants learn how to turn the family ragbin into woven art projects, how to make simple frame looms and weave on them, how to make cloth looms and more. prerequisite: Level Two
